Finland Fish Vacation

Category: travel health insurance

If your wife packing up your things on vacation puts not only sun glasses and sun block, but also fishing lines, spoon-baits, spinner baits, fish hooks and the whole battery of fishing rods and spinnings, you are surely a fisherman. And if you are an inveterate fisher, you are heading to Finland. Rumor has it that there is an innumerable quantity of fish and it is possible to catch it with bare hands, of course if you know where and how.

Before casting a line, every fisherman in Finland must purchase one invaluable document, this is a license. Without it only those can fish, who is non-adult or is already 65 years old. Everybody else should get the permission for catching. The license is issued for one calendar year and is in force from January 1 till December 31, irrespectively of whether you bought it on January 1 or not. For those, who are not going to be in Finland longer then a week, getting the license for 7 days only makes sense, and of course it will be cheaper. Every Finnish region has its own license, but it is possible to buy such one, which is valid on all country’s territory, but it is quite expensive. You can buy the license almost everywhere: at the police stations, in libraries, at the post office and in bureaus of environmental protection (there is such bureau in every Finnish city).

If you are staunch supporter of a theory that nature gifts must be free of charge, you can fish absolutely gratuitously on the public Finnish reservoirs. In summer you can harl only on floating-type rod without spool, spoon-baits, and in winter you can only troll. If you want to use other fishing devices it is obligatory to get the license. And if you net, you must register your fishing net in advance and pay special duty. You’d better not dispense with Finnish rules, because then instead of «what a huge fish I caught!» you will say «what a stiff fine I paid!».

There are places which have really great fame among fishers. It is better to start a narration with a description of the Aland Islands (in Finnish: Ahvenanmaa), which are located between Finland and Sweden. A perch, a ling of average fatness, a salmon (the Atlantic salmon) and sea taimen (bulltrout) will bite at your bait without fail.

Another paradise for lovers of sitting with a fishing rod is the river Torino. In its waters there is a famous Finnish salmon. However, there are rigid constraints on its catching: it is possible to angle only one big fish per day, and from 19:00 on Monday to 19:00 on Wednesday fishing in the main channel of the river is prohibited in general. Fishing gears can be cast in the river from June 15 till August 15.
